Farm Focus Dinner with Restaurant Kavita
Some evenings remind us why we gather.
Early in August, we had the pleasure of bringing together an incredible group for a very special Farm Focus Dinner – a collaboration between Orofino, Vancouver’s Restaurant Kavita, and Cawston’s Food of the Sun Farm.
From the very beginning, the evening felt effortless. Chef Tushar Tondvalkar and his team brought an incredible combination of professionalism, warmth, and genuine enthusiasm to the evening. There was a collaborative spirit throughout the entire experience, and it was clear how much care had gone into every detail.
The food was, quite simply, stunning.
Inspired by regional Indian cuisine and built around seasonal ingredients, Chef Tushar’s menu showcased the incredible produce grown by Justene Lougheed at Food of the Sun Farm. Each dish was thoughtful, vibrant, and beautifully suited to the setting – paired with Orofino wines and enjoyed beneath the trees overlooking the vineyard.
But as memorable as the food and wine were, it was the atmosphere that stayed with us.
The evening had a wonderfully relaxed feeling. Guests settled around the long tables, conversation flowed easily, and before long it felt less like an event and more like a gathering of friends.
At a time when our neighbouring communities are facing so much uncertainty, we were reminded of just how important it is to come together. To share a meal. To slow down. To talk, laugh, listen, and simply be present with one another.
It is something we’ve learned people are hungry for – not just a beautiful dinner, but the opportunity to connect.
Our guests also brought that spirit of generosity to the evening. Through a silent auction, we were proud to raise $500 for local emergency services. Two very special Orofino magnums found new homes with the winning bidders: a 2009 Passion Pit Cabernet Sauvignon and a 2009 Red Bridge Merlot.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us, as well as to the wonderful people who made the evening possible.
